Organic Mushroom Powders & Extracts

At Omphoria, we work with organic mushroom powders and 30% polysaccharides extracts from nearly a dozen medicinal mushrooms: reishi, chaga, cordyceps sinensis, lion's mane (hericium), shiitake, pleurotus (oyster mushroom), maitake, tremella and coriolus trametes.

The combination of extracts and powders brings together the bioactive polysaccharides of the extract and the high-quality complex mushroom powder mixture of vitamins, minerals and trace elements as well as amino acids, enzymes and secondary plant metabolites in one capsule.

Hot-water extraction is a standardised procedure according to traditional Chinese medicine. It enables the release of valuable polysaccharides that are bound into the cell walls of the mushroom and make them bioavailable to the human metabolism.

Sourcing from Pristine, Native Habitats

Omphoria mushrooms are cultivated in the heart of pure, industrially unspoilt natural areas of the Chinese uplands, where selected cooperation partners grow medicinal mushrooms using organic methods according to high quality standards of mycotrition, our exclusive partner.

As medicinal mushrooms are native to China, local farmers have long tradition and well-founded knowledge of mushroom cultivation. This expertise is largely absent in the West, where intricate knowledge about these mushrooms has been overshadowed by industrialization and the rise of modern medicine.

In China, the original mushrooms are grown with no time pressure, while, in Europe, new mushroom varieties are grown that can be patented or grow particularly quickly. The import of the mushrooms from China is thus a significant criterion for the high quality and efficacy of the individual mushroom types.

Quality Assurance by an Independent Lab

Our powders and extracts are produced organically according to EU/VO 2018/848 regulation on production, certification, labelling and advertising of organic food and feed.

Before shipping to Europe, the state-accredited, certified and independent Agrolab laboratory group in Germany is given samples of every single batch. The samples are tested a second time for heavy metals, pesticides, microbiological and radioactive impurities as well as PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) according to the German food laws. This examination covers approximately 250 different parameters.

Once cleared, the mushroom powders and extract are transported to Switzerland. Here, our team of experienced mycotherapists crafts individual formulas. The blends are encapsulated, packaged and dispatched from our production facility in Zürich, Switzerland.

Reishi

Ganoderma lucidum

Legend has it that Reishi, whose name means "Mushroom of Immortality", has been used in Asia as a natural remedy for more than 4000 years. Its extract is rich in bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides and triterpenes that have been described as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial, and antitumoral agents. At a neuronal level, Reishi powder exhibits properties of GABA neurotransmitter, activating the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for relaxation and restful sleep. Reishi takes 9 months to grow and due to its hard texture is not used as an edible mushroom.

Lion’s Mane

Hericium erinaceus

Lion’s Mane mushroom has been prized in traditional Chinese medicine for its neuroprotective and neuroregenerative properties. Today, the effects of this brain resembling mushroom have been confirmed scientifically. Lion's Mane helps improve cognitive function, increase focus, strengthen memory, and alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. Apart from supporting neurological homeostasis, Lion's Mane soothes the gastrointestinal tract and treats sleep disorders. It is also increasingly used as a culinary delicacy.

Chaga

Inonotus obliquus

Chaga is a parasitic fungus that primarily grows in cold climates of Northern Scandinavia and Siberia, conditions required to optimally form its valuable compounds. The latest research shows that, based on its high Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) values, Chaga is one of the strongest antioxidants found in nature. Chaga is commonly applied for the treatment of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, chronic gastritis, ulcers and leaky gut. Further, it supports the immune function, fights skin inflammation (esp. psoriasis) and promotes wound healing.

Cordyceps sinensis

Caterpillar fungus

Out of 400 distinct species of cordyceps, the sinensis type offers a range of health benefits, supporting heart health, strengthening the immune system and acting as an anti-aging agent. Its active compound cordycepin chemically resembles adenosine, an energy-transporting nucleoside found in all human cells. Owing to this characteristic, Cordyceps improves physical performance and eleveates VO2Max. It is also recognized as a natural aphrodisiac, aiding in the relief of sexual dysfunction. As an effective stimulant, it should not be taken later in the day as it may interfere with sleep.

Shiitake

Lentinula edodes

Shiitake, an edible fungus native to East Asia, is renowned not only as a culinary delight but also for its substantial role in traditional medicine. This mushroom contributes to lipid metabolism regulation and alleviates osteoporosis and rheumatic conditions. It also offers benefits to the cardiovascular system, including combating high cholesterol and blood pressure, and providing protection against thrombosis. Due to its polysaccharide Lentinan, it is extensively used in China and Japan as a complementary treatment in tumour therapy. Shiitake is suitable for building up the immune system and can be utilized to treat acute colds.

Tremella

Tremella fuciformis

Also known as 'snow fungus,' Tremella has been used in Chinese medicine for its remarkable skin health benefits. As a natural source of hyaluronic acid, it is known to bind water molecules to the skin, enhancing hydration and elasticity. In addition to this, it is rich in dietary fiber and antioxidants and believed to support immune health and cognitive function. Indeed, it is the perfect rejuvenation mushroom.

Maitake

Grifola frondosa

In Japanese, Maitake translates to 'dancing mushroom,' a name said to originate from the happiness people experienced upon finding it, recognizing its valuable properties. This mushroom is particularly lauded for its support of the skeletal system, notably in relation to osteoporosis. It is instrumental in blood sugar regulation, making it one of the premier natural remedies for diabetes management. Additionally, Maitake is used in weight management as it helps reduce fat accumulation in tissues. Given its myriad health advantages, Maitake truly stands out as a wonder mushroom.

Oyster mushroom

Pleurotus ostreatus

Oyster mushroom has secured a significant position in mycotherapy due to its exceptionally high content of protein, fibre, minerals and vitamins, notably B, C, and D vitamins. B vitamins are crucial for energy production and the proper functioning of nerves and muscles. Oyster mushroom offers protection against free radicals, inhibits tumor growth and promotes weight loss. The remarkable cholesterol-lowering effects of its extract make it particularly beneficial for older individuals or those with elevated blood lipid levels.
